El Octavo Encuentro Cafetalero Internacional Ramacafe 2008 se realizó los días 1, 2 y 3 de septiembre de 2008 en el Centro de Convenciones del Hotel Crowne Plaza en Managua, Nicaragua.

¡Juntos llegamos más lejos! fue el lema de este año donde estudiamos los nuevos retos a los que se enfrenta el mundo del café, como la crisis de altos costos de producción.

Luego de 11 sesiones y 23 horas de estudio, se concluyó que esta crisis es una realidad que enfrentan todos los países productores y que éstos costos pueden ser tan variables hasta a lo interno del mismo país ya que la crisis de los altos costos se encuentra directamente relacionada con los costos del petróleo que encarecen de forma general todo lo relacionado al transporte.

Paralelo a las conferencias se impartieron talleres de barismo y catación con la participación del campeón barista mundial 2008, Stephen Morrisey, de Irlanda, Raúl Rodas, campeón barista de Guatemala y Luis López, campeón barista nacional 2008. El objetivo de estos talleres es promover el consumo interno del café en los países, mejorar el servicio y la presentación del café nicaragüense.

Dentro de la VIII Encuentro Cafetalero Internacional Ramacafe, la Alianza Financiera para el Comercio Sostenible (FAST por sus siglas en inglés) presentó por primera vez un evento de promoción de servicios financieros para productores sostenibles en Latinoamérica, aprovechando la reunión de cientos de productores de café.

FAST junto con algunos de sus miembros principales y otras instituciones de préstamo social presentará en un panel las oportunidades y áreas de desarrollo para el financiamiento del sector sostenible.

Entre los conferencistas destacó Hank Dunlop, Presidente de Atlantic USA, uno de los mayores exportadores y comercializadores de café del mundo. Asimismo, participó Mark Inman, Presidente de la Asociación de Cafés Especiales de América (SCAA por sus siglas en inglés), y dueño de Taylor Maid Farms, una finca que compra café orgánico nicaragüense.

Ramacafe contó con el apoyo de más de 60 empresas que se unieron bajo el lema¡Juntos llegamos más lejos!, entre ellas destacan BANPRO, ECOM, Hotel Crowne Plaza, CONACAFE, inWEnt, Green Development Foundation (GDF), SNV, Voyava.
